Yes, yes, I've not updated in awhile. I didn't recieve any email from devastated readers, so I'll assume you either understand or simply don't care. (That last is not intended as a dig- I must confess that I don't write to the authors of journals that I read) Here's a quick update, a la Ceej:
I went on a date a week and a half ago, quite a good one, at that. She and I took a twilight walk to the Mississippi River, along the Summit Avenue boulevard, followed by coffee at Dunn's, where we stayed until the employees kicked us out at close. We talked with ease, interrupted only by the very rare awkward silence, for the entire three hours. In the process, we discovered a few strange coincidences: Though she is from Montana, our grandmothers live in the same small city in southern Wisconsin; our birthdays are one day short of being exactly six months apart; my first name is her middle name, and her first name is the same as my older sister. Nothing earth shattering, but amusing, at the very least. Unfortunately, any future contact is rather ill-fated due to the fact that she'll be going home for the summer in two weeks, and I'll be studying abroad in the fall semester. Which leads me to...
I'm studying in Amsterdam in the fall! I recieved my final acceptance letter last Thursday, finally resolving a semester's worth of work and worry. As my advisor put it, "[applying to study away] is like a fifth class, isn't it?" Yes, yes it was. Of course, there is work ahead of me as well, but I can do it secure in the knowledge that I am actually going.
Last week, I secured a job for the summer, thus ending my angst about paying the rent. I'll be working in the community service office on campus, doing general "student employee" [read: what no one else wants to do] tasks, as well as planning the one-day service event for new students in the fall. The atmosphere there looks as if it is fairly relaxed, so I anticipate a rather pleasant summer.
