[24.05.99]

So. All of my 18-year old residents departed Wednesday, and have now been replaced with 75-year-olds for the weekend. My dorm, apparently, is traditionally where alumni stay during reunion weekend (though certainly not for aesthetic reasons- Margaret Doty Hall was built during the building boom in the 60's, which filled our campus with heinously ugly architecture), which leaves me to share a bathroom with a gaggle of Class of '49 alums.

You know, I really don't want to get old. Your body gets lumpy and frail, you wake to use the bathroom multiple times a night, and fuzzy helmet-like old lady hair is inevitable. Staying up till 10pm is a late night, and waking at 6:30am is normal. Practical shoes that make your feet look like swollen taupe bubbles become necessary, and elevators must be used when the opportunity arises. Your alma mater changes almost beyond recognition, and you can use only old 'Wally' hall to orient yourself. Young whippersnappers (such as yours truly) become your primary source of information and assistance.

Patrick and I made a pact not to get old. His plan is to die before the age of 60, while my approach involves being tough and athletic in my old age (to avoid lumpiness and frailty). Unfortunately, that's not looking very likely- I don't think I've ever been altogether tough or athletic.

Packing up to leave has transformed my room into an utterly depressing state. I have a neatly stacked (and growing) pile of stuff that is ready to move near the door, while the rest of my room is growing emptier- first my posters, then the christmas lights, the books, cds, the foam egg crate from my bed, the green brontosaurus that sits on my monitor... the computer, of course, will be the one of the last things to go. All my earthly goods must be moved to my new house by tomorrow evening, and then I leave early Tuesday morning to visit my family for a week.

This entry has been sitting open on my desktop for two days. As unfinished as it is, I thought it best to put something up before I forget it all. I'll be writing entries from home, I believe, so tune in at the same bat time, same bat channel.
